(Toronto, ON) – Greening Homes, an award-winning home renovations company, will showcase groundbreaking innovations in energy efficient and nontoxic residential buildings during Green Energy Doors Open on Saturday, September 10 in Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood, and Oakville.

Green Energy Doors Open (September 9-11) presents hundreds of individual, community, and commercial sustainable energy projects in Ontario and Alberta. Organized and spearheaded by the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association, the initiative aims to showcase advancements in the clean energy sector.

Greening Homes is excited to host two home tours. The retrofit of the Leslieville home, located at 51 Bertmount Avenue, is on track to becoming one of Canada’s healthiest energy efficient homes; and the house in Oakville is one of the first homes in the country to follow the PassivHaus design approach, the world’s most rigorous energy conservation standard.

The homeowner of house on Bertmount Avenue approached Greening Homes to carefully plan a nontoxic full house renovation. The client has a rare disorder where mould, volatile organic compounds and other chemicals often trigger debilitating symptoms such as light-headedness, short term memory, wheezing, fatigue, and difficulty breathing to name a few. For more on the nontoxic building materials used in this home, visit: The making of a healthy energy efficient home.

In Oakville, Greening Homes will showcase the home of Ed Marion, one of its construction managers and a Passive House expert. Marion transformed a 1950s bungalow – built with no energy conservation considerations – into one of the most energy efficient homes in Canada.
