Parkdale Garage
Garage teardown and rebuild in the Parkdale area.
SCOPE OF WORK
Our clients hired us to complete a full teardown and rebuild of their existing garage. We took care to dismantle the garage and separate it into recyclable and waste piles to divert as much material as possible from the landfill. We poured a new slab and framed up the garage using mostly FSC certified framing materials. We finished the garage with cedar shakes in the gable ends, and low VOC painted board and battens on the lower areas.
INCREASED WASTE DIVERSION
- Greening Homes created a waste diversion plan before we started this project to identify potential waste/recyclable materials the project would produce
- The existing garage was dismantled and divided into wood, metal and waste piles to increase diversion from landfill
INFORMED MATERIAL SELECTION
- All framing lumber (where possible) was FSC certified
- Cedar shingles used for cladding
EFFICIENT USE OF RESOURCES
- LED exterior lighting
HEALTHY INDOOR AIR QUALITY
- EcoLogo certified no VOC adhesives and caulking
- No VOC primer and paints
SMART TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM SITE
- This site was a 6-minute walk from either the Dundas or Queen Streetcar line. We selected crew members who lived in the west end for this project so they could use either the TTC or cycle to site
- Trucks and other vehicles were used for moving materials and tools when they were required (not for day-to-day commuting)
